Look at the excitement on Kirsten's face after running a great race!

This post is only 3 months late.  I was working, and finally have taken some time off and am thinking of their fun visit.

January 19, 2013.  Rowan and Dilly both ran a great race.  They were excited, enthusiastic and didn't stop once till the end.  It was really fun to see them enjoy it so much and get their metals at the end.  These races were at Tempe Town Lake and there were a lot of kids running in each grade level.  Rowan ran a mile and Dilly ran a half mile.  The next day Kirs and Rob did a half marathon relay race, each running half.  I didn't get to see Rob finish, but Kirsten's finish was awesome.  She did so well on the first half of their race.  It was crazy trying to get through the streets of Phoenix to see Kirs finish and Rob start.  Streets were closed and there were people and bands everywhere.  We made it and it was fun to get to see Kirsten finish

Day in the life of Nana and Jules

1/25/13  Here are some of the touching and funny things that happened today with Jules.  Jules and I went to story time at the library today.  Before we went I insisted that she try to go to the bathroom.  She had been avoiding it all morning.  She looked at me and must have saw frustration in my face, because got tears in her eyes and said, “I’m sorry Nana.  I’m sorry Nana, but I don’t want to go potty.  I explained that we all have to at least try before we get into the car because we can’t stop when we are driving.  She went, provided she could hold onto me (because she doesn’t have her potty seat).  She went and was very proud.  We checked some books out at the library.  One of them is “One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish” by Dr. Seuss.  We were reading it after lunch. One of the pages says, “Yes, Some are red. And some are blue.  Some are old.  And some are new.  Some are sad (picture shows a very sad looking fish) and some are glad (picture shows a happy fish).  And some are very, very bad (shows a big fish pushing little fish).  Why are they sad and glad and bad?  I do not know.  Go ask your dad.  Well she pointed to the sad fish, tears started flowing and she began sobbing.  Sometimes she is very emotional and can be very in tune with others feelings.  Sound like anybody you know?   I just held her and asked her if she felt sad.  She said yes, that she missed her family.  We talked about that a little, the boys are at the dentist, Dad is at work and Mommy will be here after her nap to pick her up.  We talked about all the other people who are part of our family too.  Well,  then we gathered up BooBear and I picked her up, saying, “lets go find Special Blanket”.  We searched everywhere in the house.  I remembered seeing it in the kitchen earlier and I remembered hearing noises in the pots and pans draws while I was eating my lunch. I put 2 and 2 together, annnnnnnd opened the bottom draw, nothing.  I opened the top draw, and there was “Special Blanket”!  Jules thought it was a great joke and was laughing.  She went happily down for her nap.
I will come back and post about the MacIntyres coming to run in the Rock and Roll Marathon.  Great times were had by all.  Till then, Carol

Parades and Celebrations

01/10/2013  Happy New Year to one and all!

I haven’t posted for awhile.  Thanksgiving and Christmas came and went.  Thanksgiving time was busy with South Phoenix activities which I somehow became involved in.  The South Phoenix community is celebrating 100 years of worship which started with the Neighborhood Church, the church I grew up in.  There was a Thanksgiving parade which Mom rode in a horse drawn carriage and I walked just behind the red hat ladies and in front of the clowns.

There were probably more people in the parade than watching.  There were about 70 entries, everything from school bands to floats, to horses to antique cars.  I actually don’t know all of the groups because I didn’t get to watch it.  However it was great fun and I’ve included some pictures.

I was working of course (clinical days at schools and clinics at Phoenix Indian Medical center and grading papers), babysitting little Jules,

This is our English Garden Tea Cozy, benefit DBE (Daughters of the British Empire)

Our Union Jack Tea Cozy, both for sale for $15 in case you're interested
going to the gym, cleaning house every now and then, making cards, knitting tea cozies for the DBE, making labels for the jam I made so I can give them for Christmas presents, working in the garden, etc.
I also spent a lot of time practicing and singing in the choir at my church (50+ strong).  We preformed Charpentier’s Christmas Mass and Hayes, Gloria on different Sundays in December.  We had an orchestra for both of them, so had dress rehearsals 2 Saturdays in a row.  There were both awesome!

Mom and I flew to Houston, Texas for Christmas.  We met Sean, his girls, Jacki, Larry, Kelsea, Philip and their kids at Sean’s house there.  Noel, Holly and Julian were coming but Holly is pregnant and the doctor didn’t want her to travel.  We missed them and I missed my kids, but am blessed that Faye and Ryan both live in town so I get to see them often.  Sean has just added on a large extension to the house so there was plenty of room for us all. He started the addition then got a new business opportunity in Alaska so moved back there full time.  The kids really had a great time together.  Aubree and Airah were very patient and played with younger Romey and Archer. They swam in the pool, made ginger bread houses, had tea parties, danced and generally hung out. Bailey who is in highschool was so happy to get to see her friends that she had at least one girlfriend spending the night each day.  We visited, talked, played either Hell (a card game) or Mexican Train Dominoes most nights, cooked, played with the kids,  drank coffee and had afternoon tea.  We also cooked.  As my Mom says, “If it weren’t for the inner man, we wouldn’t have much to do.”
