Parades and Celebrations

01/10/2013  Happy New Year to one and all!

I haven’t posted for awhile.  Thanksgiving and Christmas came and went.  Thanksgiving time was busy with South Phoenix activities which I somehow became involved in.  The South Phoenix community is celebrating 100 years of worship which started with the Neighborhood Church, the church I grew up in.  There was a Thanksgiving parade which Mom rode in a horse drawn carriage and I walked just behind the red hat ladies and in front of the clowns.

There were probably more people in the parade than watching.  There were about 70 entries, everything from school bands to floats, to horses to antique cars.  I actually don’t know all of the groups because I didn’t get to watch it.  However it was great fun and I’ve included some pictures.

I was working of course (clinical days at schools and clinics at Phoenix Indian Medical center and grading papers), babysitting little Jules,

going to the gym, cleaning house every now and then, making cards, knitting tea cozies for the DBE, making labels for the jam I made so I can give them for Christmas presents, working in the garden, etc.
I also spent a lot of time practicing and singing in the choir at my church (50+ strong).  We preformed Charpentier’s Christmas Mass and Hayes, Gloria on different Sundays in December.  We had an orchestra for both of them, so had dress rehearsals 2 Saturdays in a row.  There were both awesome!

Mom and I flew to Houston, Texas for Christmas.  We met Sean, his girls, Jacki, Larry, Kelsea, Philip and their kids at Sean’s house there.  Noel, Holly and Julian were coming but Holly is pregnant and the doctor didn’t want her to travel.  We missed them and I missed my kids, but am blessed that Faye and Ryan both live in town so I get to see them often.  Sean has just added on a large extension to the house so there was plenty of room for us all. He started the addition then got a new business opportunity in Alaska so moved back there full time.  The kids really had a great time together.  Aubree and Airah were very patient and played with younger Romey and Archer. They swam in the pool, made ginger bread houses, had tea parties, danced and generally hung out. Bailey who is in highschool was so happy to get to see her friends that she had at least one girlfriend spending the night each day.  We visited, talked, played either Hell (a card game) or Mexican Train Dominoes most nights, cooked, played with the kids,  drank coffee and had afternoon tea.  We also cooked.  As my Mom says, “If it weren’t for the inner man, we wouldn’t have much to do.”
